When I first arrived at USTM in 2017, there were only a few Khasi (Khynriam, Pnar, Bhoi, War, Maram, Lyngngam) students on the campus. Even though this is Meghalaya, it doesn't feel like home to me at the moment, therefore I've always wanted to bring our people together, especially in the campus.
In 2018, the patriotic Khasi Students from RIST organised a Khasi Farewell Picnic, and it was only this year that I had the opportunity to launch the first freshers meet of Khasi Jaiñtia students in USTM with the help of the senior Khasi Students from RIST, and the trend has continued since then.
Following the Khasi Freshers Meet 2019, I and other RIST and USTM Khasi patriotics students decided to form a Khasi Students' Union and approach the President of the KSU CEC, later known as the Khasi Students' Union RIST-USTM Unit (formed on September 25, 2019 with the blessings of the KSU CEC), whose main purpose is to unite the Khasi people and to look after the welfare of the Khasi (Khynriam, Pnar, Bhoi War, Maram, Lyngngam).
Since then, the Khasi Students' Union RIST-USTM Unit has held anti-CAA protests, freshers' meet, sports meet, and other events. With the support of KSU NKHD and with an order from the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, the Union was able to persuade USTM administration not to take hostel fees throughout the pandemic's lockdown time.
The Union also assists a large number of Khasi (Khynriam, Pnar, Bhoi, War, Maram, Lyngngam) students at USTM who require financial aid, hostel seats, and other services.
